What to Do with Old Books

There is something unique about books. They are much more than the mere vehicle of knowledge. They are precious, beautiful objects. Some of them are expensive but they can also be the little treasures that you find in a second-hand book shop. The best book on my shelf is one that I found on a flea market 15 years ago for £1: a hardback copy of La Chanson de Roland (the Roland Song) printed in 1865, with a well-faded red cover, gilded on the side, stained and suitably smelly on the inside – a perfect piece of antiquity!

Books can also be used artistically. (Warning: Sensitive book lovers may find some of the photos below disturbing.)
